Soccer Systems of Play, Team Formation and Positional Set up, 4-4-2

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 8:49 am

4-4-2

Defense;

4, defenders are usually arranged as outside left, inside left, inside right and outside right.
The most recent idea is to have them lined up in a banana shape with the middle of the curve closest to the goalkeeper and the outside defenders, the points, slightly ahead but behind the midfielders.
As this is the shape of a banana the defenders can see one another usualy all the time.

Some considered the flat back option but this means much more communication from the capitain of the defense usually one of the insiders.
The general idea is to have the two defenders attend to the attack coming in from their side.

This means that the opposite outside tucks in a little to cover the center of the field covering the goal and any incoming additional attacking opponents.
When the team has possession the defenders would then play wide to stretch out the other teams attackers.
This is also known as playing it around the back.

Sometimes the defenders can be lined up in a diamond shape. This is to utilize the last player back as a “sweeper” who clears the ball up the field and out to the other defenders and mid fielders.

This player is in constant communication with the goalkeeper and relays the message to the other defenders. This is because the goalkeepers can see the complete field from their vantage point.

At times and in some cases too often this central defender will by-pass the midfield and play it up to the forwards. I say too often because this usually has the forwards out numbered by the opposing defenders.. However there are a few “power forwards” who could handle this situation, but most are unable too.

The defender at the top of the diamond is considered the “stopper” whose duty is to challenge any attack or attacking play. They usually play from side to side rather than up and down the field.
These defenders are involved in shutting down any play and play making.
These players really read the game well. They need to, or they would be doing all the running.

Midfield

4, mid-fielders are usually arranged as outside left, inside left, inside right and outside right.
The outside players are called, wingers or flank players and are also involved in striking at the goal.
This would make this line up have a possibility of 4 strikers at any given time.
These wingers usually have the bulk of the running to do as they could carry the ball from the defending third and into the attacking third.
This also depends on the team strategy as outlined by the coaching staff.

The two inside midfielders are supposed to be the “play makers”. These are the individuals who are responsible for carrying out the plans the coach and players have designed and used as the methods of attack and goal scoring.
These positions have traditionally played these roles. However nowadays the play making comes from anyone and sometimes all the players at any given time.
These inside players have also been more defensive in their general on field play.
This defensive idea is to stop the opposition from creating attacking options.

Forwards;

These are the main ggoooooooooooalll scoring machines. The ones who react to the ball quickly and are able to shoot from any place on the field.
To be effective they should work closely together as a team and pair. To this extent they are sometimes called “twin strikers”.
They are also responsible for creating space by making the defenders mark them.
They make the defense leave their zonal resposibilities whereby taking them “out of the game”.

Skateboard Decks

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 12:52 pm

The deck is an important component of a skateboard. Simply put, the deck is a piece of wood or a wooden board the rider stands on. A skateboard comprises four wheels attached to two axles. The axles are known as trucks, and are mounted to the bottom of a wooden board called a deck. Usually, the decks are about 79 cm long and 20 cm wide. They are made of seven layers of Canadian maple veneer, which are pressed and glued together.

Skateboard makers alternate the direction of the wood grain of each layer so that the deck does not split along the natural grain lines of the wood. Metallic decks or decks made of composite materials are rather rare. For downhill riding and street riding you should use longer skateboards, while the shorter ones are more suitable for tricks and maneuvers.

A main feature of a deck is that it rises at both ends. The one in the front is called the nose, while the rear one known as the tail. To perform tricks and stunts, skateboarders use the leverage from the kicked ends. The deck usually has abrasive grip tape on top, providing traction that prevents the rider from slipping off.

For a rider, it is very important that he gets the right deck size while choosing the board. It should neither be too small nor too big. In case the deck is too small, you will find it tough to maintain balance, as your feet and heels will hang over the edge. Again, if it is too big, you will face difficulties in turning and lifting off the ground while trying tricks. If the deck is more concave, the skateboarder can display his/her tricks more aggressively.

There are many patterns and designs you can get on your deck. So choose a deck you find beautiful, and if you want to give it a personal touch add some stickers on it.

Hole In One

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 6:35 pm

A hole-in-one is one of the rare achievements that professional golfers always long for. When a golfer holes out the ball from the teeing ground with one stroke, he or she earns kudos for having made a hole-in-one. As it’s a once-in-a-lifetime achievement, every golfer remembers when he or she achieved the feat. They also remember if their friends have made it. Golfers are crazy about Holes-in-One. Making the shot is the ultimate trial of their skill and proficiency. Those who achieve the feat become so elated that they throw a party at the clubhouse. It’s the memorable moment of anybody’s golfing career. Although the fellow golfers join the party and celebrate the occasion, they definitely feel jealous about the achievement.

It’s a dream for every professional golfer to make a hole-in-one at least once in his or her career. But making a hole-in-one doesn’t take too much time. Golfers just need six seconds to make a hole-in-one. Some golfers come extremely close to hitting the target, but the honor remains illusive for them. The closer they come to hitting the target, the more they become hopeful of their chances. But the magical swing that eventually makes a hole-in-one possible is extremely hard to come by.

Even for the most prolific player in the golf circuit, making a hole-in-one is a difficult job. A hole-in-one is a 150-yard shot. Golfers start practicing the shot well before the tournament. However, the standards for granting a hole-in-one are still very unclear. If you want your hole-in-one achievement to be recognized officially, you will have to produce a witness in support of your claim. When big prize money is involved, the authorities will ask for authentic proof substantiating your claim.

12 Golf Tips to be a Power Hitter

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 1:56 pm

Firstly, to understand how to become a power hitter, we need to analyse why the average golfer loses power, and hence distance.

Teeing up the golf ball too low
With the ball teed up too low, the driver is not able to sweep the ball away, but tends to force a steeper downward hit. The thought process came from an earlier period in golf, when the sweet spot was low down on the driver head.

The latest drivers have a larger sweet spot, and the sweet spot is higher up the face to give more spring effect.

To overcome this problem, tee the golf ball up, with at least half the ball above the top of the driver head.

Stance too narrow
Most average golfers have too narrow a stance when setting up to the ball. This tends to lead to an unstable base, and hence poor balance.

To overcome poor balance, a slightly wider stance is used with your toes slightly splayed out. The lead foot should be splayed out around 30 degrees.

At address the hands tend to be too close to the body.
This tends to give the club a narrow arc.

Really good players when using the driver will reach a little more, producing a much wider arc, dramatically improving their distance.

Swaying during the backswing.
There is a tendency to sway backwards, instead of turning about a pivot point. The weight is too much on the outside of the rear leg.

By all means move your weight to the rear leg, but only onto the inside of the trailing leg. Try turning more than swaying backwards.

Keeping club close to the body on take away.
This definitely loses you power.

Extended your arms away from your body, as if handing the club to someone to your right, whilst still maintaining your balance.

Keeping right elbow too close to your body at the top of your backswing.
A lot of average golfers will keep their right elbow too close to their body at the top of the backswing. There will be a loss of power here.

Ensure your right elbow stays out from your body, which in turn will induce a much wider arc, and hence more power.

Reverse pivot.
Reverse pivot is a big loser of power. This is where the weight tends to go towards the front leg on the backswing.

Overcoming this weight shift means concentrating on moving your weight onto your back leg, but not too far.

Ball position wrong.
There is a tendency to put the ball too far back in their stance.

The golf ball should be roughly opposite the left heel to allow for a nice sweep of the ball by the driver.

Left foot leaves the ground on the backswing.
By allowing the left foot (or trailing foot) to leave the ground on the backswing, this will not allow the body to wind up like a spring.

Keep the left foot down and turn your shoulders against the resistance of the lower body. This is a great way to get a nice coil for power.

Swaying on the downswing.
Average golfer will sway forward during the downswing.

To keep the power, move the hip slightly in a lateral movement, and start the club down, with the right arm tighter into the body.

Flipping the hands.
Some golfers have a bad practice of flipping the hands.

By keeping the hands cocked this gives a nice lag, and plenty of stored energy.

Hands too high at finish.
Having your hands too high at the finish produces a weak finish.

Allow the body to come through naturally, hips rotated over the left leg, allowing the right heel to come off the ground.

These tips will definitely get more power into your golf game.

Energize Your Short Game With the Right Lob Wedge

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 9:24 am

What’s the one shot most players would like to add to their game for lower scores? If you answered a high, soft shot within about 60 yards of the green I think you’d be right. Most mid to high handicap players want to know how to master the lob wedge.

From time to time you’ll be faced with shots that require high carries over bunkers or water hazards to tight pin positions. You could certainly hit those shots with an open faced sand wedge, but a lob wedge makes it much easier. Lob wedges are used most commonly when players need very high trajectories and a lot of spin.

A good lob wedge can make all the difference…

Lob wedges come in lofts ranging from about 58* to 61*, and some “super” lob wedges come in lofts from 62* to 65*. Because of its wide sole the lob wedge is sometimes used for high, soft sand shots.

The problem some of us run into is the low bounce angle on some lob wedges. With their high lofts, low bounce lob wedges can become like shovels and I see a lot of players taking huge divots with them.

In the hands of a skilled player a lob wedge adds versatility and a new dimension to the short game. If you’re looking to add a lob wedge to your set but don’t have much experience with one, follow these guidelines before making a purchase…

First, look for lob wedges with no more than 60* of loft. The higher the loft the harder it is to master.

Second, narrow your choices down to wedges with a bounce angle of at least 8*. Bounce angles of 10* to 13* are preferable.
Why? Added bounce makes it easier to play without digging too deeply into the turf.

Another benefit? More bounce makes it useful as a sand wedge. A low bounce lob wedge can be a tricky play from the sand.

Develop your technique for more effective wedge shots…

What’s one of the biggest stumbling blocks to hitting the lob wedge? Confidence. It’s easy to tighten up and that limits your range of motion. The lob requires a soft touch; anxiety makes taking a good pass at the ball more difficult.

It is possible to master the high soft wedge shot. Use these keys to help groove the right swing:

  • Keep your weight evenly balanced between your feet. Don’t play the ball too far forward or too far backward in your stance.

  • Take a three quarter swing; don’t take the club past parallel.

  • Try to feel your hands leading the clubhead at impact.

  • Make sure you keep accelerating through the ball.

The lob wedge does work… in the right situations…

The lob wedge is the right club when you’re faced with shots that require high trajectories and very soft landings. For flying over hazards and bunkers a lob wedge is a necessity.

Unless you need that extra carry, think twice before using a lob wedge. Harvey Penick was an advocate of chipping the ball whenever possible. He felt using lower lofts to get the ball rolling as soon as possible was the best way to get closer to the hole.

You can easily prove this for yourself. Stand off the green about 40 feet from the hole. Try these two methods and see which gets the ball closer. First, lob the ball to the hole with a high trajectory. Then roll the ball to the hole, getting it on ground as soon as possible.

My guess is you’ll get it a lot closer by rolling it like a billiard ball. When you put a lob wedge in your bag, use it when you really need to. I see a lot of players trying to lob the ball when they might do better chipping it.

An extra wedge also changes set make-up…

Adding the lob wedge means you have to make a decision about which clubs to keep in your 14 club rotation. Most players drop a long iron in favor of the added wedge.

    What are the advantages?

That’s easy. Multi-wedge sets let you take full swings on tough yardage shots. It’s easier to make full swings with a more lofted club than to make partial swings with a less lofted club. A full swing builds confidence, and increases distance control. A good lob wedge can help you avoid an awkward situation when you’re between clubs.

    Summing things up…

Adding a lob wedge makes you more effective from within 60 yards of the pin. When you miss greens, you’re faced with short shots that require high carries. In many cases the lob wedge will be your only effective weapon.

Choose a wedge with the right loft and bounce angle, then take some time to get accustomed to the higher loft. Your one swing thought should be to accelerate through impact. Do that, and hitting high, soft wedge shots becomes a lot easier.

    Professional Golfers Are Overpaid?

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 3:41 pm

There are millions and millions of dollars to be made on the golf course. Not counting endorsements, Tiger Woods has earned over $50 million during his short career and shows no sign of slowing down. He could stop now and never have to work another day in his life. These professional golfers are earning so much money that they regularly skip tournaments where the money isn’t as big or if they are tired and need a break. Imagine if the every day regular guy or gal could decide not to go to work next week if they didn’t feel like it. Life would be good.

The thing is, though, professional golfers do earn their money. They bring in massive numbers of fans to tournaments and also to everything else golf, like magazines and TV shows. They are the ones who are attracting the consumers to the companies that want to sell to them. Without the professionals, there would be no PGA tour, no Golf Channel, and no Golf Digest. There would still be great ideas to improve our golf games but how would the companies get the word out to the selected group of consumers who are golfers?

Some would argue that not only are professional golfer paid too much, but they enjoy a privileged lifestyle that most of us can only dream of. So what? Everyone knows how it all works and there are no surprises…only jealously. If we complain that much about how they are doing so much better than the rest of us, why not try to attain the same level they do? If it is that easy and that great, why doesn’t everyone do it? Sure, some try and never make it but the majority of people who are the first to complain are the ones who have never considered they should go after the same lifestyle.

If it’s that great, why not try to be the one reaping the rewards yourself? The truth is that is a long, long road to become a professional in just about anything. Professional golfers often struggle to get to where they are with no guarantee that they will ever be successful. Sure, Tiger Woods had shown promise from the time he was a young golfer but was he an injury away from a regular life like the rest of us? Probably he was. I wonder how many people out there, golfers or not, are just like the rest of us, having missed an opportunity due to an unfortunate sequence of events.

Remember, golf is a business just like any other. The professional golfers are what makes the business work and without them, countless businesses would not even exist.

Golf Resistance Training – Helping to Make You a Better Player

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 10:35 am

Being a good golfer requires a good level of fitness. Remember, there are 18 long holes you have to play! Thats a lot of walking, and swinging and carrying of your bags. If you really want to improve your score, enjoy the game more and in general feel fitter and healthier, then you need to conside golf resistance training. Regardless of your age, if you start to use resistance traiing on a regular basis, this can help you get into better shape and even help stave off disease.

For the golfers who want to add more power to their swing, whilst also giving their stamina and endurance a boost to complete all the 18 holes should consider resistance training, also known as strength training. This is also a great way to loosen up muscles, preventing injury whilst out there on the golf course. Resistance training simply involves lifting weights or working out with the resistance machines at a gym. If you want to, you can also do the resistance training at home, just by using everyday items that you already own.

To begin with, it is important that you speak with a doctor before undergoing any form of extra excercise. Put simply, resistance training, as previously described should be considered as “strong medicine”, if only because you could hurt yourself if you are unsure of what you’re doing or you aren’t sure of what level you should undertake when you are working out. Providing your doctor, once you have been checked out, gives you the go ahead, you have another important decision to make.

To join a gym or not to join a gym?

This problem can be solved very easily with a little leg work, so to speak. Find out where the gyms in your local area are situated, then try to visit each one of them. Most gyms will offer a free tour, possibly even a free workout to make sure that they offer the right facilities and equipment for your needs. By taking advantage of the different offers that each gym makes before you join, it will allow you to asses which, if any, is the right gym for you.

If you decide that you don’t feel comfortable joining a gym and wouldn’t like to be attending on a regular basis, or if you don’t want to be paying the monthly fees for the membership then you could also consider working out at home by doing the golf resistance training their instead.

You may want to make the initial one off investment of buying dumbbells and gym equipment that you could set up in a spare room, therefore eliminating the need for an ongoing monthly payment to the gym. To begin with, though, you may not even need to purchase any of these to do your resistance training.

One example of a great excercise for your legs involves just squatting down. This particularly, will work the backs of your legs. Using just the wall for support to lean against, or do it in the middle of the room if you so wish, for a harder work out. Start by placing your hands on your hips, your feet slightly apart, lining up directly under your shoulders.Lower your body down, as far as is comfortable or until your thighs are at a 90 degree angle to the floor, bending you knees, whilst keeping your back straight. Then push up slowly. Repeat until you feel it is starting to work the muscles in your legs.

Another resistance training excercise for golfers is to use a chair. Sit on the chair, scoot the front seat whilst keeping your back straight. Then with one foot firmly placed on the floor, straighten your other leg until it is now horizontal, stretched out, parallel to the ground. Now repeat this excercise with the other leg, giving both legs a thorough resistance training work out.

A simple resistance training excercise for your arms involves using just 2 cans or beans or soup, or what ever you have at home in your cupboards. Sitting on a chair, with your arms resting relaxed at your sides, a can in each hand, slowly raise your arms, in an arc like direction. Moving your arms upwards and outwards, stretched away from you, until they are now parallel with the ground, pointing away from your shoulders. Now slowly lower them down and repeat.

If you wanted to work both legs and arms at the same time. Simply do both squats and arm raises at the same time. Standing in the middle of the room, with your arms by your sides and a can in each arm, begin to squat as described earlier, whilst lowering your body down, being to raise your arms. This should result in your arms being parellel with the ground at the same moment as you are squated down. Slowly raise your body and lower your arms at the same time. This should also result in increased focus, co-ordination, as well as increased muscle strength.

Reducing back problems may be the most important concern for golfers looking to for long term enjoyment from the game. Tight back muscles are the leading cause of golf related back problems. The twisting and turning action that is required to play golf, takes its toll on the spine and back muscles. It is also wise to try and walk as much of the golf course as possible verses riding to keep the body from cooling down between shots.

A very enjoyable and effective method for warming up the back is to use massage chairs. High end massage chairs offer quality massages for a fraction of the price of visiting a professional massage therapist. Why Golf Exercise Is The Key To The Correct Golf Swing Release

Filed under: Sports Resources @ 5:43 am

A poor golf swing release has been one of the factors responsible for dozens of injuries that have kept many golfers off the course, some of them for good.

Failure of applying the correct technique, apart from giving you poor results in your game can also result in all manner of injuries. Many of these injuries leave a golfer in great pain. They include injuries like low back, rotator cuff and elbow overuse injuries.

This is precisely the reason why products like the Sports FitKit have been so successful and widely accepted. It allows golfers to do simple exercises that have a positive impact on the golf swing release. One of the things that these exercises do is increase the shoulder turn.

Not only does this single aspect greatly reduce on the chances of the golfer being injured, but it also results in much greater driving distance and the correct golf swing release to achieve it.

How else can a golfer increase their shoulder turn without the risk of injury? How else does any golfer achieve the right golf swing release?

Golf exercise and using the right products recommended by experts in the field, is really the only way to make an impact on your golf swing release and your game in general.

Actually golf exercise products have an additional advantage that many golfers have quickly embraced. And this is the fact that they are quick and easy to use.

Many golfers would otherwise be completely unable to stick to a regular exercise routine if it were not quick and easy to use. This means that they just a need a little spare time off their regular schedule to quickly use the product.

The other advantage is the effectiveness of the exercises in quickly improving a persons’ game in general including their golf swing release.
