Getting Real Interviews at Job Faires

Standing out at a Job Faire can make a difference in your search. Career Fairs are starting to pick up, and Dice is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a Silicon Valley Career Fair in January, 10 companies as showing up, and Dice has 82 job fairs scheduled for this year across the United States.

How do you get to the real interviews at a Job Faire? The contention can be significant, but you can help yourself stick out from the crowd with early planning. At AA-Careers, we have a simplified six-step process to prepare. Plan to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, investigate the companies that are going and pick your targets. Use the web to research the organizations that are there before you go. Go to their internet sites and see if they have their jobs posted. Pick a tenable number to target, and get ready to spend about an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 7 in a day, and three or four is a much more reasonable target. For each company, you want to know: key product lines, recent news, and executive names. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You’ll end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job openings on the web, read them to see what the hiring manager is looking for. Create a mapping of your achievements and skills to the prerequisites of the job. Make the terminology match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring company.

Third, create a ‘short sales pitch’ for each likely company/job combination. Write down a 90 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud showing why you are a great prospect for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the company at the job stall.

Fourth, modify your resume for each job type. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re want. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the achievements and skills that most clearly match the job description. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be obvious to see that you’re a match based on your resume.

Fifth, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each position – bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a intelligibly tagged folder. Keep them in a light briefcase or folio.

Finally, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be properly groomed. Avoid strong cologne or perfume…use any eau de cologne or perfume sparingly, if at all.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

Shopping for Internet Bandwidth

Filed under: Great Telecommunication Tips, Markets @ 11:57 pm

At the time when our business was growing fast, it became self-evident that we needed additional bandwidth. Our T1 line just wasnt cutting it anymore. We had no choice but to upgrade to something bigger and more expensive.

Since I am in charge of IT, I had to start renegotiating our current contract. Fortunately our company’s 1 year contract was almost over, so I was in the position to shop around for different options.

The most apparent answer was to go from a single t1 to a bonded T1. Yet with our current growth rate, it would not take long before that also would not be sufficient.

Our sales rep with our current carrier (who will remain unnamed here) was glad to recommend a bigger and far more expensive solution: a ds3 line (T3 line) with a capacity of 45 Mbps. Obviously that would be bandwidth enough taking our projected growth into consideration, it was perhaps even way too much. And monthly cost was in the higher 4 digit figures.

I found something that sounded too good to be true. A new technology (or at least new to me) that can deliver bandwidth via an Ethernet port over POTS lines, also called Ethernet over Copper. The pricing was excellent; we were able to get 10Mbps for less than a bonded t1!

Another main benefit of carrier ethernet bandwidth is that it is very scalable. It is possible to add bandwidth by simply ordering more, in small incremental steps of a few megabit, even all the way up to a gigabit Ethernet circuit.

Be sure to shop around with several carriers and make sure you are aware of new technologies (or use a telecom consultant that is).

Getting a Mobile Phone Contract with Free Line Rental

A cost effective way to get a cheap mobile cellular phone is by using a free line rental deal. 12 month free line rental deals are still the best kept secret of all of the deals being sold currently.

Bar none, the most competitively priced method of buying a free line rental mobile contract is online. As free line rental packages are a slightly unusual promotion it is a good idea to find a good a comparison site to find the cheapest packages at that given moment.

12 month free line rental deals are actually one hundred perecent cashback by redemption offers where the total cost given back by cashback redemption is equal to the total cost paid over the life of the mobile contract. With a free line rental deal you must continue to pay the phone bill just like normal for the initial months before you are able to claim your refund. Then it is up to you to remember to claim all your money of the cellular phone back from the company that first offered you the cellular phone.

Effectively a 12 month free phone contract should not cost any money to operate. This is providing the individual concerned properly makes a claim for redemption. Often this is not nearly as easy as retailers make out because mobile phone sellers stick in a lot of pre-requisites in the detail of free line rental contracts so they reduce the number of successful claimants.

Putting aside the complexities of free line rental packages they are completely genuine and it is possible to get a cost free mobile for 12 months.

12 month free is unnavoidably going to be a trade off, because they are only offered on older mobile phones. The most serious risk of free line rental deals is that in the event that the retailer go out of business you cannot redeem your one hundred percent cash back.

Mobile Broadband Hotspots

Throughout the wireless broadband network, hotspots are necessary to further advance the quality of internet bandwidth. Hotspots are accessible venues which offer a dynamic range of Wi-fi broadband service. Hotspots are traditionally found in places of public venue such as restaurants, train stations, airports, hotels, hospitals, coffee shops, libraries and department stores. Another common location of wireless hotspots is in the networks of college and university campuses. In recent years, many users have allowed their personal capacity to be used as a user based hotspot, an allocation which greatly improves bandwidth and broadband quality. BT’s Total Broadband service has just recently incorporated this new hotspot source into the complexity of their productive broadband network. As collateral for making their capacities available as hotspots, users are given complementary access to other Fon hotspots, as those across UK’s wireless cities. This optional service is primarily available to subscribers to BT’s Total Broadband service, though it may become available to others in the near future. BT also plans to distribute individual routers to other subscribers who wish to enroll in this vibrant program. BT has been one of the few companies across Britain who has worked unceasingly to bring the best of Wi-Fi service across the UK. BT has been instrumental in creating the range of Broadband Britain. This user driven Wi-Fi program is only one of its many accessible broadband services.
