A Safe and Simple Weekend Body Cleanse Program

Filed under: Eating Fun, Great Nutrition Tips, Health @ 5:52 pm

Quick detox or long duration body purifying programs can be rough on one’s body. You can avoid harsh side effects and possible damage by performing a monthly 2-day detoxification rather than executing long-lasting detox plans several times yearly.

Probably the simplest way to do a 2-day body detox is a fruit and vegetable fast. This is very simply a diet regimen that includes only fruits and vegetables for 2 days.

Most of us prefer to eat fruit in the morning and vegetables later in the day. Ideally, eat your vegetables raw in a salad, juiced, steamed or cooked in a soup. The total amount of fruits and vegetables that you eat during your detox is your choice. One means of doing your cleanse is to have one piece of fruit each hour during the morning, then enjoy a big salad for lunch. Then you can have more fruit in the afternoon as a snackand then steamed vegetables for dinner.

You won’t be ravenous with a fruit and vegetable detox diet. And if you execute it well, you will in no way feel deprived. Buy some fruits that you typically don’t have. Fix an extravagant salad with a full smorgasbord of vegetables.

A semimonthly 2 day fruit and vegetable diet can be one factor of a long-term dieting program. Weight loss and detoxing go together given that our fat cells grow in size with the quantity of toxic waste they hold. Body cleansing and detox are now catching on as a dependable and healthy components of weight loss.

Wagyu Beef the Japanese Way

Filed under: Eating Fun @ 7:07 pm

If you want to experience a culinary chef-d’oeuvre, a visit to Takumi is a must. This Melbourne Japanese restaurant is the best of its kind. Not only is the food of extraordinary quality, but the location and design of the restaurant creates a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.

Takumi is the only Japanese restaurant in Melbourne that offers Wagyu beef. If you don’t know what Wagyu is, it is a top grade cut of beef. It is so tender and juicy, it can almost melt in your mouth. Being an expert in Wagyu, this beef is offered in many dishes in the restaurant. The Wagyu beef burger, grilled and marinated with Sukiyaki sauce is a favorite selection among lunchtime visitors. Personally, I recommend ordering the Wagyu Yakiniku Lunch Set. The beef is served raw and is cooked on a charcoal grill. Companioned by salad and a complimentary glass of beer or wine. Not only does this taste delicious, but being able prepare it yourself adds an added touch of magic.

This Japanese restaurant may specialize in Wagyu beef, but that is not the only delicacy it has to offer. Regular lunch patrons also enjoy the bento box. Takumi offers a few options on the main entree for the bento box. A common Japanese restaurant menu item is Gyoza. These pan fried dumplings are exceedingly good and addictive. I promise you cannot eat just one. If you are a seafood fan, give the Unagi bento Box a try. Unagi is smoked grilled eel and is a very popular and delicious Japanese restaurant dish.

The decor and lighting of the restaurant has a very zen-like feel. It is relaxing and tantalising which makes you feel like you are right at home. The sleek tan chairs and subtle decorations have a tranquilizing affect and lets you to feel like you are having a quiet meal at home, even though you are in the presence of other patrons.

Overall, Takumi is a wonderful Japanese restaurant. From their delicious menu offerings, to the many different Saki choices, this Melbourne Japanese restaurant is number one on my book.

Loire Valley Wine

Filed under: Eating Fun @ 12:13 am

The Loire Valley region in France is known for its vineyards which produce stellar wines. The wines of the Loire Valley are varied, but what they have in common is their superior drinkability and freshness. The vineyards that dot the landscape of the Loire Valley produce many types of wines, and most of them are very well recognized in wine circles.

One of the reasons that make the Loire Valley wines so enticing is the climate in which the grapes are grown. The coolness of the air, along with the soil and the breezes from the river all conjoin to create wines that are crisp and refreshing, yet full-bodied at the same time. Loire Valley wines are notoriously recognized from their unique flavor and beautiful aromas. The region produces invigorating white wines, tantalizingly sweet wines and robust red wines. The rosé wines of the Loire Valley are also highly rated by many wine drinkers.

Loire Valley is rated third most producing region for overall wines, but has the market cornered when it comes to producing white wines. It is also second in the production of the effervescent sparkling wines that are so enjoyable to many wine drinkers and even non wine drinkers…almost everyone loves a bit of bubbly!

Loire Valley wines are known for their accessibility and affordability. They are wines that are meant to be enjoyed, not just stored in the cellar for the “perfect occasion”. Although the wines emerge from a premier growing spot of France, they are not snobby – which makes them perfect for the neophyte wine drinker and those that are very well-versed in the complexities of wine.

How to Put the Fun Back in Meal Planning

Filed under: Eating Fun, Health, Support @ 2:26 am

Meal planning doesn’t have to feel like a chore anymore. It’s time to get excited to get back into the swing of things and plan some delicious meals. After all of the holiday menus filled with traditional dishes laden with fat and calories, filling your family with a more balanced fare will make them feel ready to face whatever life throws their way.

To begin your meal planning, gather some of your favorite recipe books. It is also a good idea to grab your grocers ads and your stack of coupons. Write a meal planning list beginning with what foods your family likes. If you have picky eaters, don’t try anything new during a week that you will be busy and have to get the kids fed and out the door in a timely manner. Its much easier to save new recipes for weekend meal planning.

Make sure you have plenty of space at your kitchen table so you can spread out all of you papers. Take care to notice special double coupon deals and in store specials. Compare the list of foods your family likes with the sales in the ads. Look through your coupons and match them to your list and the ads. Saving money while planning your meals will make it all the more enjoyable. If you put together an entree everyone will eat and add a salad or some crudites and low fat dip you will have a well rounded meal with something for even the pickiest eaters in your family. Maybe you can even add a cupcake for dessert , low fat of course.

Vegetables as a Source of Complex Carbohydrates

Vegetables have always been one of the biggest sources of complex carbohydrates. Some of the most common vegetables such as the potato are a store house of complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are found in most vegetables. Some complex carbohydrates that are obtained when eating vegetables can be quickly digested while others take longer and are slow to digest. Complex carbohydrates that are consumed when eating vegetables are often slow to be digested forms of energy. Some forms of complex carbohydrates are stored in the body. These forms are sought after by those who would like to gain weight or muscle and are used for the purpose of resistance training and body building. An example of this would be the potato. A Taste Unbidden: Oil and Vinegar Low Carb Recipes

Filed under: Eating Fun @ 12:23 am

“Cooking is at once child’s play and adult joy. And cooking done with care is an act of love.” — Craig Claiborne

Balsamic vinegar is one of the more common gourmet vinegars used in making low carb, oil based dressings – although there is nothing common about balsamic vinegar. The trend toward improved heart health has also led to low carb choices that assist in attaining elusive weight loss for many. Today, oil and vinegar is becoming a family staple.

Balsamic vinaigrette dressings will be best received by family and friends when tossed through lettuce leaves or drizzled over sliced tomatoes and cucumbers just prior to serving. Tossing the salad too early renders leafy vegetables droopy and unattractive.

Oil and Vinegar – Shaken Not Stirred

Oil by itself can be used as a salad dressing; however it is an acid like balsamic vinegar that makes the dressing more palatable to family and guests. A mixture of olive oil and balsamic vinegar provides a uniquely satisfying meal time vinaigrette.

Tasty Homegrown Experiments

Flavored oils that are unique to your own family recipes can be made at home. Herb oil, for example and be made by gently heating a desired amount of olive oil, then adding chopped basil or chives. Your pan should be removed from the heat and covered until the mixture is cool. You can mix the cooled product together using a blender. Once smooth you should strain mixture through a fine mesh sieve. These oils should be blended up to four days prior to planned get-togethers and stored in a corked bottle to let the flavors merge.

Spicy chili oil can be made by gently heating olive oil, adding several finely chopped fresh chilies to the sauce pan, along with a bay leaf and an unpeeled garlic clove. You should let mixture cool thoroughly then strain through a fine mesh sieve and store in a corked bottle.

Factoid: ‘Balsamic’ means ‘like balsam’. Balsam is an aromatic resin and the term balsamic vinegar is a common reference to the fact that the end result is thick (resin like) and aromatic.

Low Carb Dressings

One of the many health benefits of balsamic vinegar (as well as other quality vinegars) and olive oil is the low carb nature of the mixture. Variations on these recipes may help you discover a unique flavor that is perfect for a family recipe. You can use the following recipes for guilt free meals and snacks.

Easy Italian Dressing

INGREDIENTS:

1/4-1/2 cup olive oil
2 Tbs. Balsamic vinegar
2 Tablespoons of granular sugar
Italian seasoning of choice

PREPERATION:

Shake or stir ingredients together. Keep tasting until you find the right combo of vinegar and oil. If you like it less sweet, then add less sugar.

Garlic Vinaigrette

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 cups olive oil
1/4 cup of your favorite vinegar
3 cloves of crushed garlic
2 tablespoons of granular sugar
1/2 teaspoon mixed Italian herbs
1 pinch salt
1 pinch pepper

PREPERATION:

Combine all ingredients in a jar with secure cap, shake well until well blended. Leave to cool in fridge for an hour or so before serving.

Mediterranean Salad Mix

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 envelope of Good Seasons® Italian
1/2 envelope Good Seasons® Garlic and Herb
Apple Cider Vinegar
Olive Oil

PREPERATION:

Using the Good Seasons® carafe fill to the vinegar line with apple cider vinegar and olive oil. DO NOT USE ANY WATER, even though there is a fill line for water, use vinegar only. Chop some romaine lettuce and top with crumbled feta cheese, red onion slices and black olives. Serve with chilled dressing.

“The olive tree is surely the richest gift of Heaven, I can scarcely expect bread.” — Thomas Jefferson

In Conclusion

A low carb diet may not be for everyone, but a reduction in dietary carbohydrates is an idea that’s hard to argue against.

When a natural combination of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar provide so much taste with so many health benefits it becomes a message worth sharing – both verbally and in dishes that we make for our family and friends.

Whether it’s balsamic vinaigrette for a spinach salad or olive oil as the base for Easy Italian Dressing, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests this good tasting food is good for you.

A Taste Unbidden (An ode to Balsamic Vinegar)

Between the tip of tongue and peace of mind
A raging thirst discovers
A love affair that’s just begun
As I savor each new morsel

Just where did taste begin?
Where has it hidden all these years?
A dichotomy of sweet and sour
O’ fair Queen of Modena.
