Are My Garden Items Covered by Insurance when Left out while I Go away?

Filed under: Insurance Options @ 6:15 am

Nearly everyone enjoys traveling and seeing new places even though preparing for a trip, whether locally or overseas, can be quite hectic. In the hustle and bustle of packing up the family, it is very easy to forget certain things. Many people, for example, forget to put their garden items like shovels, gloves, wheelbarrows, and more inside when they are getting ready to leave. Of course, this opens up the possibility that these items will be damaged by the elements or even stolen. As such, homeowners should make sure to ask their insurance company: Are my garden items covered when left out while I go away?It might seem easy to just assume that such tools will be included in the contents coverage of a homeowners insurance policy. While that may very well be the case in many instances, nobody wants to go away, have something stolen or destroyed, and then find out that the insurance policy only covers items that are inside a structure. A few minutes spent looking into the insurance coverage before the trip to see if it has garden insurance on the policy can save hours of work and great disappointment later on.There are many ways that the homeowner can find out whether his or her insurance policy will cover those garden items that are left outside when he or she goes away. First, the homeowner can retrieve his or her copy of the insurance documents and research whether in fact such coverage is written into the contract. However, since many of those contracts are written in barely decipherable legal language, it may be wise for the homeowner simply to skip to the second option and contact the insurance company itself.
