Peer to Peer Internet Video Broadcasting

Filed under: Hall Of Webcams @ 11:20 pm

Unlike standard television broadcasting, there are a limited number of viewers that an Internet television station can accommodate. These limitations are determined by the amount of bandwidth the network media server has available. A popular Internet television station would require large amounts of bandwidth to provide the broadcast to a large viewing audience.

Peer to Peer (Commonly referred to as P2P) broadcasting allows viewers using specialized software to re-distribute the media broadcasts. This eliminates the need to utilize costly centralized media servers to distribute the broadcast and results in cost savings for bandwidth consumption.

Any size business or group can establish an effective media broadcast presence without the huge costs normally associated with Internet broadcasting. Using this method, only a few data streams are required for a global Internet broadcast distribution.

P2P Internet broadcasting provides extremely bandwidth friendly results and can support a virtually unlimited number of users. This method also provides effective security against Denial Of Service (DOS) attacks which can cripple a centralized server network architecture.

There are both commercial and non commercial options that offer P2P broadcast ability for Internet television.

This article will cover free open source software.

Open source is an initiative that allows people to have access to the source code of software. This is the actual nuts and bolts that allow the software to operate. This initiative also allows people the ability to redistribute and or modify the source code thus allowing improvements and adaptations of the software.

Peercast

Peercast is a P2P media broadcast application that is available for the Windows, Unix and Mac operating systems. It is compatible with Shoutcast, Icecast and Windows Media streaming protocols.

The software was originally designed to use Gnutella as a basis for broadcast distribution. The software now uses a hierarchal topology for media broadcast distribution. This new method provides greater scalability and more data organization.

Broadcast station data is collected by the YP directory. This data is continuously updated by individual broadcasters. Listeners / viewers (client software) provide the connection points between themselves, the broadcasters and others.

Each broadcaster has the option of including a digital signature to enable media broadcast authentication. This will prevent their broadcasts from being hijacked and replaced with alternative material.

The following video codecs are supported by Peercast: VP3, VP6, Theora and WMV. It can also be used for audio broadcasting and can be configured to use several audio codecs. The software can be used to broadcast individual static media files as well.

Hardware network routers use Network Address Translation to provide internal IP addresses for computers within that network. Traffic flowing through NAT must be converted from internal IP addresses to external IP addresses. P2P traffic routing through NAT usually requires software port forwarding to bypass NAT. Peercast is NAT friendly software and requires no special port forwarding.

A plug-in is available for the popular Winamp media player. (Winamp versions 2.x and 5.x) This can be installed and used by clients to easily receive a Peercast station.

The Peercast network provides a real time online station directory of current broadcasters. (http://yp.peercast.org)

The main Peercast client must be installed to broadcast using this P2P network.

FreeCast

FreeCast is a Java P2P broadcast application. Users must install the Java Runtime Environment, which is available for the Windows, Unix and Mac operating systems. It is compatible with the Icecast streaming protocol.

The software has a internal audio and video player applet that can play both the Ogg Vorbis open source audio codec, and the Theora open source video codec. It can also be configured to use the Java Web Start feature for automatically loading and launching. This enables a “one click” approach for web based end users.

Each broadcaster has the option of including a digital signature to enable media broadcast authentication. This will prevent their broadcasts from being hijacked and replaced with alternative material.

FreeCast uses a hierarchal method of media broadcast distribution. Each broadcaster acts as a central node with listeners / viewers receiving data from them and relaying to other listeners / viewers.

Icecast and JRoar media streaming server software can be used with FreeCast. In addition, Ezstream can be used with both JRoar and Icecast to source both Ogg Vorbis and Theora files. This software is a command line utility and is available for Windows and Unix operating systems.

FreeCast is continuing software development that will allow its deployment across networks that interact with network routers that utilize Network Address Translation (NAT). Port forwarding is currently required to accommodate NAT routers.

A real time station directory is currently not available or supported.

A Basic Guide to Picture How Fire Alarm System Functions

Have you viewed those little round objects attached to the ceiling and marveled how they function and detect fume? We see them each day and everywhere but a bigger portion of us don’t know they operate. Since were talking about alarms and sensors, do you know that inside that small cylindrical object a little nuclear reaction happens? Let’s see how it these fire detectors work.

Currently, we have two types of fume detectors. The most common is the ionization detector. They work better than the other type which is the photoelectric detector. In addition, ionisation sensors are cheap and require tiny space when put in.

Ionisation Detector

The ionization detector utilizes 2 plates with opposite voltages and a little amount of Americium-241. A cell usually powers this voltage and are encased in a metal chamber where air can stream freely. The actual body of chamber functions as the negative plate and the positive plate covers the Americium. The Americium develops alpha particles which ionise oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the air within the chamber. What in reality takes place is nothing more than a bumping off of electrons. As the electrons are bumped off, the air atom becomes positively charged and attracts to the negative plate, while the electron gets drawn to the positive plate. Meanwhile, the electric circuits inside the detector senses if there are no disruptions to the pattern.

As air passes freely in the chamber, it becomes ionised. As smoke enters the chamber, the ionisation operation is broken up and consequently ignites the electrical horn to sound off.

Photoelectrical Detectors

Photoelectric sensors arent used as mostly because they arent that sensitive as most need a substantial amount of smoke to go off. Photoelectric sensors consist of two channels, one is to give out light and the other discovers it. If fume molecules are present in the air, this will interfere with the signal and the alarm goes off.

Most Fire Alarm Systems are bound together so if one gets an alarm, the entire fire systems go off. Some are even connected together with a water shower that mechanically goes off in the event of fire.

Top Tips for Choosing the Right Platform Bed Sheet

Filed under: Book Base, Legal Issues, Life Of Shopping @ 12:12 am

It was common to have white asian platform bed sheets in everybodys bedroom quite some time back. today there is a myriad of such stocked up in shops and you are actually spoilt for choice. The latest bedding are available in irresistible prints and colourings that change the look of your sleeping room

The following are some factors that matter a lot when you purchase a bed sheet.

Calculate the beds proportions

It is a common belief that one queen bed or king bed has the same dimensions which is so untrue. Besides the top measurements, all the rest can be different depending on the brand. The bottom line is that you need to estimate the height, width, largeness of the bed and also check how thick the mattress is. Your bed could be shorter or longer than another one from the same manufacturer. When you have your beds proportions with you, choosing a bedsheet is easier.

Decide from where to purchase

Super storehouses usually stock on branded bedding and their own brands in one place.. For a unique look, some people also go for embroidered bedding with sequins. The Internet is brimming with fresh new patterns every day. The basic bedding are sold in discount rate stores for a reasonable cost.

Acquaint yourself with thread count in

A thread count refers to the number of threads contained in one square inch of the bedsheet in both directions of the weave. You will find this thread count on the bedsheets label. A lush texture calls for a high thread count. However do not go for a very high thread count as it entails the singular threads are light and may not give the preferred easy feeling. For the right soft feel, a thread count of 175 – 250 is fine.

Pick your bedsheet material

Take care to choose a fabric that you can afford and is easy too. Cotton sheets are still liked, but blended cotton is preferred by those who dont like lines. For a warm cocoon around you, flannel is best in winter. Then there is the all time favorite silk, satin or microfiber that offers luxury.

Evaluate the bed sheet

Measuring the bed sheet before buying is as important as measuring the bed sizing. Refer the bed sizing and find out if the chosen bed sheet will be perfect for it. The first wash can shrink your bed sheet by at least 7 %. It is a good idea to stock up some extra sets of bedding. This way an accidentally torn sheet can be replaced fast.

Once all the above factors are taken care of, you are sure to purchase a nice and inexpensive bedsheet soon!

On Avoiding Fraud and Shopping Safely

Filed under: Market Patrons @ 9:48 am

Shopping on the net has become what would seem to be a national past-time, which is fantastic for the shopper – it’s made it effortless to shop. Moreover, a more competitive market coupled with low running costs has determined cheap prices for items.

All the same, as the online market has enlarged, so too has the necessity to be cognizant of your consumer rights, and what you should do if you are in receipt of items that don’t even turn up or faulty items. Information is available on the internet, like the consumer protection act 1987.

You also need to be aware of which payment provider to use to buy something, as each payment provider has its own terms and conditions. . Doing your homework can prevent you getting cheated by internet scams.

Our pearl of wisdom is to do your preparation regarding the vendor : do they show their phone number and postal address? What is the vendor’s terms and conditions? Their returns policy? Their privacy policy? All these enquiries must be answered prior to considering buying from the vendor.

Another very issue to think about: what are the methods of purchase? Nowadays, it’s not enough to merely look for a Secure Socket Layer Certificate – this won’t inform you how they store your data, only how it’s transmitted when you make your purchase. If in doubt, only buy from vendors who use 3rd party payment gateways such as PayPal, Google Checkout, WorldPay, SagePay and NoChex. Also you can see what reputation the seller has with his payment gateway, e.g. check his PayPal account and how many orders have occurred on this particular account.

Filed under: Finance Web @ 6:50 pm

I have been discovering a lot of great new blogs of late. I am still undecided about all the twitter fuss. I still relish blogs and have a substantial number in my feed reader.

The essence of blogs is that you can find hidden gems, and they are from people that really like to can string more than a few words togther.

Sure you can find some trendy people on twitter. But, seriously, twitter is for individuals with add or who dont like to write genuine posts. Yes, tons of people twitter and also blog, and those people are chill by me, but I am forever and forever a blog fan.

Blogs pressure the author to really articluate their thought. Twitter on the other hand merely allows you to express it. Call me old fashioned but I think there is a point where smaller is no longer better. We have been obsessed with miniturization for so long. Especially when it comes to technology. Surely there has to be a level where we take in substance matters. Value matters. What do you believe?

Maybe the solid answer rests in balance. And compromise. You cannot squeeze people to have substance and not be superficial. But, too perhaps you need to drive the obama loving hippies to lighten up a little aswell?
